23 Side Jobs That You Can Do From Home

Are you looking to make an extra income monthly? Are you planning on transitioning from a full-time job or maybe you are a stay-at-home mom and want to do something that can help with finances in your household?
Whatever the reason for needing additional income, the possibilities are endless. My goal is to trigger some ideas for jobs that you can do from the comfort of your home, and your job is to explore them in more detail.
Some of the jobs may require that you have some degree of background knowledge, while others are just based on your passion and wanting to explore something completely new.

I know you may be wondering whether or not you can start a business blogging and earn an income from it. The answer is yes! That is my passion for a side job. It is definitely something that you can start small with minimum capital upfront and eventually grow into a full-time income.
If it is truly a passion of yours to start a blog, then I would definitely consider doing so. Before you do, please read my blog post on How I Started A Blog. This will help you to get motivated and excited for the long haul.
Income: The income for blogging can vary depending on your niche and dedication to getting it accomplished. High-income bloggers can earn up to 6 figures and more depending on their niche and level of marketing expertise.
2. Digital products/printables
Printables are another great way to earn some income that you can start and continue to do at any time. It really does not require much. You can be as creative as you would like. Whether it’s planners, journals, coloring pages, or wall art. It all depends on your preference. The only tools required to start making printables right away are:
- Graphic Design Platform: Canva (my favorite), Picmonkey, Powerpoint, Adobe, etc.
- Platform to sell products: Own website, Etsy, Creative Market, Social Media eg. Pinterest.
- Mockups to display photos for staging products.
There are tutorials available on YouTube, Udemy, or any learning platform that can teach you how to make them.
Once you get started the fun of creativity never ends.
Income: Varies based on the type of printables and the price that you plan to charge.

3. Virtual painting class
Virtual painting classes or parties are a great way to have fun, while also making artwork. If painting is something that you love doing, you can actually teach classes to adults or even kids for fun.
The virtual class allows you the flexibility to work from home and teach classes online. You can also pre-record lessons and offer them as a package. How you plan to do it is completely up to you.
You can get more information from popular date night painting sites or activities such as Painting with a twist etc. and either join with them or inquire about learning how to do your own.
Income: Varies based on the type of paint projects and the price that you plan to charge per artwork (ranges from $30 a session and up).
4. E-Books
Do you love writing? Do you have an idea of a book or course etc. that you would love to share with others? I would definitely consider writing an e-book.
Many people might think that e-books are expensive, take forever to write, or even sell at all. I am here to tell you that this is not the case.
You can write, and publish your own e-books with just simple computer software design tools. The e-books can then be uploaded and sold on Amazon ( the biggest e-book platform worldwide).
If you do need editing services, I would recommend using Fiverr and Upwork, a job outsourcing company that can provide editing services for way more affordable prices than paying high-priced book publishers.
Income: Ebook prices usually range from $9.99 and up depending on the information that you are providing to your target buyers.
5. dropshipping
In this day and age, e-commerce has exploded even now more than ever. Even so now in the pandemic, many are purchasing products online like never before. This is therefore a great time to start thinking about capitalizing in this market by having your own products out on display.
You can get started with little to no upfront capital, which not many people are aware of. The most popular choice for a person with little to no income to start is actually doing dropshipping through a supplier. Most drop shipping companies are free and you don’t have to purchase anything upfront.
Later on, you can then capitalize on your idea and think about purchasing and branding your own unique products.
The only tools required to get started is:
- E-commerce store: (Wix, Shopify, etc.) or even Etsy (if you designed it)
- Dropshipping company: e.g. Printful, Printify, Ali-Express, etc.
- Selling the most in-demand products based on research.
- Selling your products to customers at the price point that you choose.
When someone makes a purchase from your website or platform, the company will handle the transaction and ship the product directly to your customer free of any charges to you.
You make a profit minus the actual wholesale cost of the product that you sold. It is that simple.

6. Social media Marketer or manager
Social media has become one of the greatest ways for businesses to integrate with potential clients and customers.
Social media management involves analyzing media audiences and finding ways, strategies, or content creation to help a business or client grow their social media presence.
If you have a love for social media and would like to work with bloggers, businesses, etc., and help them promote their content, services, or products on any social media platform, then this is a really great and flexible job opportunity that can be done from home.
You can also niche down based on your experience and talents:
- Pinterest Marketing Manager or Pinterest Strategist
- Facebook Marketing Manager
- Instagram Marketing Manager
You can start by joining an outsourcing company such as Fiverr and Upwork to promote your services to your target clients. There is no cost upfront and it is easy to get started right away.
Income: According to ZipRecruiter, social media marketers can make from $346 to $1404 per week on average.
7. Virtual assistant
Virtual assistants (VA) are remote office assistants that can do any task similar to a secretary or administrative assistant in an office setting. This may include services such as scheduling appointments, making phone calls, making travel arrangements, managing email accounts, etc.
This is a simple job with no required background knowledge that you can start right away.
Most people start by joining an outsourcing company such as Fiverr and Upwork to promote your services to your target clients, while also gaining experience (if it is new to you).
Afterward, you can definitely branch off into your own business full-time.
Income: The average weekly pay according to Zip Recruiter is $1,291/week or $5,593/month.
8. Copywriting
Do you have an interest in writing “catchy phrases or slogans? Then this is something that you can explore and make profitable.
Copywriters write text for advertising to promote and sell goods and services. They are known to be high in demand for many businesses that need their expertise for marketing success.
You can start by joining an outsourcing company such as Fiverr and Upwork to promote your services to your target clients.
If you are looking into a new side job with no experience, then affordable Copywriting courses are available on Udemy.
Income: According to ZipRecruiter, copywriters can make from $250 to $1672 per week.
9. Designer
If you have an interest in designing, whether it is for interior, fashion, graphic, etc., there are many flexible jobs available that you can do from home without having to go into full-time.
Many companies for eg. real estate agents may require your expertise in designing interior spaces, stores, apartments, etc.
Definitely, a business that you can start by doing small projects, then scaling it to a full-time business afterward.
Income: According to ZipRecruiter, design consultants can make from $267 to $1510 per week.
10. consultant
Based on your area of expertise, consultant jobs are another great way to earn additional income from home. Consultants offer their expertise in any area in which they are knowledgeable.
This is also a very flexible job as you can choose your hours and clients on an as-needed basis.
Income: Varies depending on your area of expertise, and can range from $20 to $58 an hour based on ZipRecruiter.
11. freelancer
A freelancer is a person who is self-employed that offers services, often working on several jobs for multiple clients at one time.
As a freelancer, you can charge hourly or daily rates for your work. This is usually short-term but it has the potential to become full-time.
Fiverr and Upwork are the best places to do freelance work by signing up for a profile and advertising your expertise.

12. Digital marketer
If you are tech-savvy and love anything to do with digital marketing, then this is a side job to explore.
Digital marketing involves promoting and selling products and services by using online marketing through social media, search, or email.
Companies and individuals are always looking for experts in digital marketing.
Fiverr and Upwork are the best places to do digital marketing work by signing up for a profile and advertising your expertise.
You can also teach a course in digital marketing and work with platforms such as Udemy.
Income: According to ZipRecruiter, digital marketers can make from $267 to $1510 per week.
13. virtual tutor
If you have a passion for teaching and would like to tutor a few classes as a side job based on your level of expertise, then this is something to consider doing.
It is definitely flexible and can be done online even now than ever before at your own convenience.
Tutoring is not only for the younger students, but you can also do advanced tutoring for college education as well.
To get started, you can either do it independently and advertise your services to friends and family members, or you can join a tutoring service, that will outsource the clients for you.
Income: Varies based on your level of expertise. Tutors at the pre-k and kindergarten level are charging around $40 per hour with an agency. The possibilities are endless.
14. Babysitter or nanny
If you have a passion for working with children of all ages, then consider doing babysitting as a side job. It is an easy start-up and does not require much to get started.
Since we are looking at jobs that you can do from home, then it’s best to ensure your home is also appropriate for hosting children.
- First, make sure you meet the age requirements which is usually 16 or 18 years depending on the state.
- I then recommend completing essential certifications, such as CPR and First Aid. You can also do a course on Babysitting to help you navigate the job requirements a lot easier.
- Make sure to have a driver’s license.
- Have references.
- Have a resume created for potential clients to see your level of expertise.
Income: The average salary nationwide for a babysitter is $563 per week.
15. travel agent/vacation planner
I love to travel, and who doesn’t! That is why this is a great market to tap into.
If you have a love for travel and especially planning vacations etc. then this is something to consider doing as a side job.
A travel agent’s role is to help people choose, plan and arrange their vacation to various locations nationally or internationally.
As the agent, you will work closely with your client in setting up a budget, then offering ideas or advice on where to go, what attractions to visit, etc.
According to Ziprecruiter, travel agents can make $589 per week on average.
16. finance planner
If you are financially savvy and would love to teach your client budgeting, debt management, saving, investing, etc. Then this is a great opportunity to do it as a side job.
A financial planner is a type of financial advisor whose job is to work with you to create a personalized plan that helps you manage your budget and achieve your financial goals.
Finance can be taught virtually from home and therefore clients do not need to be in person. Also if you are open to having clients come to your home office, then this can definitely work for you as well depending on your preference.
Some financial planners also join with finance gurus, for example, Dave Ramsey, and may teach small classes virtually using his techniques on how to manage finances and get out of debt. It is completely flexible on what you decide to do.
Income: Most financial advisors charge based on how much money they manage for you. That fee can range from 0.25% to 1% per year.
17. Antiquing
I have actually seen persons who do antiques as a side hustle and I am so fond of the creativity. I just love it!
If you have a passion for searching for old or outdated pieces of furniture, painting, cars, etc, and love to remodel or fix them up, then this is something that you can do to earn an extra income as well.
People who do this will go to thrift stores, craft markets, etc in search of antiques, they will then repaint, reupholster, or fix up pieces and then sell them for a profit. They can advertise the products on Etsy, Facebook Market, Offer Up, etc.
The possibilities are of course endless!

18. website developer
Do you have a knack for website design or creation, then this is something that you can do as a side job.
A web developer is a programmer who specializes in or is specifically engaged in, the development of World Wide Web applications using a client-server model.
I am not a tech fanatic, but a family member of mine who is extremely talented in his field also does this as a side job.
You can start by joining an outsourcing company such as Fiverr and Upwork to promote your services to your target clients.

19. writing and copy editing
If you have a passion for writing, or you don’t mind editing a few projects, in your free time, then this is something that you can definitely explore. Writers and copy editors are always in need, especially in the blogging, books, or content creator environment.
Writers are always wanted to create projects, manuscripts, blog posts, or books for companies.
Copy editors are usually needed to revise written material, correct grammatical errors, and improve readability with clients.
You can start by joining an outsourcing company such as Fiverr and Upwork to promote your services to your target clients.
Income: According to ZipRecruiter, writers can make $1,136 per week on average. Copy editors can make $933 per week on average.
20. Digital designs invitations
If you are artistic and would love to explore the world of digital designing then the possibilities for a side income are endless.
Digital designs can be anything from making wedding invitations, birthday cards, banners, flyers, etc. There is not much upfront cost and you can advertise your work on platforms such as Etsy, Creative Market, or even have your own website (eg. Wix or Shopify).
Income: This varies depending on what you plan to sell and the cost to your target audience.
21. Virtual Dog Training
Virtual dog training had me puzzled for a long time because I didn’t understand the potential of making income from it until I saw a person talk about her experience as a dog trainer and her expertise in helping others to do so as well.
She actually sells courses online by producing videos that her clients can watch at their own convenience. She can also be available for one-on-one virtual contact if needed.
There is so much that you can explore in this interesting niche.
Income: This varies depending on what you plan to sell to your target audience.
22. notary signing agent
There are notaries, and then there are notaries that branch off and oversee the signing of loan documents.
It is a really simple job that requires no prior background knowledge, just minimal training and getting a notary license. The function of the job is to oversee clients signing their loan documents.
You can get started with an agency at first to get experience, and then branch into your own company once you are more confident in your abilities.

23. stock photos photography
Do you love photography? Are you constantly taking pictures of nature, family and friends, etc.? Then this is something that you can definitely do as a side job.
Ok, so you’re probably thinking how can I profit from this? Here is the unique thing. You don’t have to actually find clients to take their photography. You are actually taking photos of anything you can think of and then selling them online for a profit.
You can snap pictures when you’re on vacation, visiting interesting places, or even around your home or garden.
Whatever it is, businesses especially bloggers, graphic designers, magazines, etc. are always looking for photos to purchase for publication.
Income: Your photos can be sold on Etsy or Creative Market. The possibilities are endless.
